Marilyn has spent 40 years in the drapery industry, starting as a seamstress to earn the money to go to college, then a window coverings consultant, and from 2003-2013 the supervisor of window coverings for a large custom decor company. She studied Interior Decorating and Fashion Design at Ryerson and graduated from Carleton University with majors in Communications, Industrial Psychology and Business. In addition, Marilyn has been an independent professional trainer since 1983 for local and national businesses, has been a part time instructor for Algonquin College, Residential Decor program since 2006, Director of Education for the National Board of CDECA (Canadian Decorators Association) 2012-2014 and is currently a member of IDRC (Interior Décor Resources Canada).
Marilyn develops and teaches interior décor courses for residential and commercial applications in Marketing; Textiles; Drapery Styles and Fabrication; Hardware Applications; Bedding, Nappery and Light Upholstery.
The Drapery Den was established in 2011 for Marilyn to continue her 40+ years of providing drapery services – a business that she is very passionate about. She continues to attend drapery and fabric conferences in North America so she can keep up-to-date on the window fashion world and share her knowledge with others in the industry.
